Negative Space

Artist Statement

Negative Space is a project that deals with our sense of joy and awe.  As humans we get a sense of divine inspiration or “awe” as we enter large spaces or view places from up high.  The view from the top of a mountain, a large gothic cathedral or standing in an empty sports arena can create this sense or feeling of astonishment.  Other elements like color, the unexpected, or unusual reactions can also contribute to the “awe” that we feel.

These places I photograph are devoid of people, usually show large strips or bands of textured and colored buildings.  Although abstracted, I want these images to show this connection to this awe and delight in these surprise places I have found.
